The German International School in Abu Dhabi was founded as a German school Abu Dhabi in 1976.  it was launched by the Strabag company at the time. With 16 pupils and three teachers, the teaching enterprise began in modest circumstances in the middle of the then desert.Over the years, the school has evolved steadily and has increased its student numbers to almost 70 students. The outbreak of the Gulf War also drove the school back enormously and the number of students dropped back to under 20 students. Maggie Topping, the teacher of that time, kept the school alive with these few pupils, until a headmaster was appointed again in 1990.
